Trauma may be a part of life, but extreme physical injury or traumatic events often have a lasting, and debilitating impact. This can manifest as either PTSD or TBI, two conditions that have dramatic effects on the brain. PTSD is caused by traumatic events in a person’s life, while TBI results from a violent physical injury. The normal course of treatment for PTSD and TBI is usually medication, we believe that true healing can’t occur unless the exact location and nature of the trauma is identified accurately and then treated with a specific protocol designed to treat the specific injury and restore the functional health of the brain.

At Unique Mind Care, we know that every patient is an individual. That’s why we design our alternative, FDA-cleared, and scientific treatment protocols to your specific needs. We take the time to study your brain and your physical health and then we work to improve the electrical or chemical imbalances in your brain that are affecting your quality of life. Our goal? Improved brain function and a happier and healthier you.

What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?

For those with PTSD, everyday life might feel like being lost in a maze they can’t escape from. Caused by such traumatic events as witnessing or experiencing a disaster, loss of a loved one, sexual assault, or another kind of violence, PTSD often causes terrifying flashbacks, hypervigilance, and the urge to avoid reminders of the experience. The end result is a loss of quality of life. If this sounds like your experience, you aren’t alone. An estimated six in 100 people in the United States will have PTSD at some point in their lives, according to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs

What are the symptoms of PTSD?

PTSD affects the brain, so its symptoms aren’t always outwardly visible. Some of the symptoms may include:

  • Flashbacks of the traumatic event accompanied by sweating or a racing heartbeat
  • Panic attacks
  • Aggressive behaviors and outburst
  • Repeated memories and dreams of the event
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Avoidance of places, events, objects, thoughts, or feelings that remind the person of the traumatic experience
  • Difficulty concentrating, falling asleep, or staying asleep
  • Always feeling on edge
  • Risky and destructive behaviors
  • Trouble remembering key features of the trauma or feeling happiness
  • Social isolation

Diagnosing PTSD can be complicated. At Unique Mind Care we rely on our intake and testing program to identify the location of the dysfunction in the brain that is the underlying source and cause of the PTSD-associated symptoms.

What is Traumatic Brain Injury?

TBI is a mild or severe impact event that can affect the brain’s ability to process normal life events in a healthy manner. It can be devastating to the patient and his or her family, as it can have a life-changing impact on personality, cognition, and general mood control. Frequently children with mild to severe TBI will be mis-diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. Symptoms can appear immediately or can manifest over time, depending on the nature of the injury.

What are the symptoms of TBI

TBI can range from mild to severe, with the symptoms corresponding to the severity of the condition. Someone with a mild case of TBI may experience:

  • Headaches
  • Attention issues
  • Volatile moods
  • Impulsivity
  • Dizziness
  • Blurry vision
  • Fatigue
  • Ringing ears
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Memory Issues
  • Light sensitivity
  • Nausea
  • Those with more serious TBI may also have:
  • Loss of vision in one or both eyes
  • Blurry vision
  • Slurred speech
  • A persistent headache
  • Agitation or confusion
  • Loss of consciousness

Our Alternative Approach to Treating PTSD & TBI

PTSD and TBI are two of the most difficult brain conditions to diagnose. At Unique Mind Care, we focus on treating the functional issues in the brain caused by the injury. Medications may treat the symptoms, but they rarely address the problems at their source. Every individual is different, which is why we approach patient care with scientific, drug-free and non-invasive treatments customized to your exact needs. There are no cookie-cutter solutions here; we study your brain and body to address the chemical and electrical imbalances that are negatively impacting your quality of life.

All Unique Mind Care client treatment begins with extensive testing to identify the specific traumatic event and its impact on the brain. We begin with an auditory and visual evaluation to determine the type of processing issues the brain is experiencing. Next, two types of QEEG brain mapping are performed and processed in our clinic by our neuroscientist team. Our advanced in-house mapping process will create a detailed map of your brain for insight into the injury and the areas that are dysregulated or out of balance. We also test your neurotransmitters, the chemicals in your brain that can impact your thoughts and moods. All our intake testing is completed in-house and is consolidated in a clinical review that provides a roadmap for treatment.

As a Unique Mind Care patient, you will also receive:

  • Nexalin Therapy – Only available at Unique Mind Care, Nexalin is a non-invasive and side-effect-free treatment that uses a frequency-based waveform to stimulate the hypothalamus and deep centers of the brain. Nexalin helps to create new pathways within the brain, enabling it to heal itself over time. Cleared by the FDA, Nexalin supports the LORETA protocols for enhanced response to treatment.
  • LORETA Neurofeedback Therapy - Using the most advanced technology currently available, our LORETA neurofeedback therapy helps train the brain to promote and sustain healthy brain wave patterns. All LORETA protocols are designed in-house by our licensed PH. D Neuroscientists. With more than 30 years of experience, we are the most advanced provider of neurofeedback therapy in Houston.
  • Additional Support - The brain’s performance and function are greatly influenced by the body, which can’t function well without healthy nutrition. That’s why we offer nutritional analysis, food sensitivity testing, and supplement and enzyme recommendations. We also provide counseling to address personal and professional issues.

At Unique Mind Care, we are dedicated to understanding all aspects of PTSD and TBI. Our treatments are designed to reset and restore functional health to the brain so you can have the best quality of life possible.
